The Savoy Educational Trust - a new website and CMS

The Savoy Educational Trust is charitable trust based in Holborn, London, that provides grants and funding for various hospitality related projects. Fusion Team have worked with The Savoy Educational Trust since 2003 for various IT training and IT support services.

The Savoy Educational Trust had an existing online presence and web maintenance / hosting agreement in place, although they were not fully happy with the support and service they received. The webiste was built using ASP and provided the key information about who they are, what they do and who they can help. However after a study carried out on the website by a 3rd party, the Trust were given following feedback:

  • The site is hard to navigate
  • The content is good, but not easily accessible
  • The design looks older and tired
  • The site message is confusing

With this feedback in hand, the decision was taken to develop a new website with a custom content management system (CMS). The information and content for the site must be easily accessible, readable and clear. Content must be available in various formats including online, downloadble, printable and also available in video format, where required.

The Fusion Team Solution

Fusion Team designed and developed a new website for the Trust with an extensive backend CMS, that would handle centralised asset management, page management, menu managament and site membership / signups. The site was built using Adobe ColdFusion, JQuery and is hosted by Fusion Team on their dedicated server based in a datacentre in Kent, UK. The database used to store all of this information was Microsoft SQL Server 2005.

The site was built to be SEO friendly, dynamic, accessible and easy to read. The content was tweaked and the apparopriate XML sitemap submissions were setup, along with the META keywords, title and descriptions, ready for the new site to be launched. All of this information could then be edited using the CMS that was provided to The Savoy Educational Trust as part of their total online solution. The new site was launched on 1st July 2009.
